Weekly Update 9/4/21

Hello Mission Bay Families!

I want to thank the staff, students, and entire Mission Bay community for your support in making the opening and first week of school at Mission Bay a success.  I look forward to working with our community this year to continue to make Mission Bay a welcoming and safe place for learning.

Here are some important announcements:

  • ACES, our free tutoring program, will resume starting on Tuesday, 9/7 from 3:30 - 5:00 in the library.  ACES is staffed by credentialed Mission Bay teachers and UCSD volunteers.  ACES will be open Mon - Thurs from 3:30 - 5:00. If you have questions about the ACES program, please contact Dr. Ron Lancia at rlancia@sandi.net.

  • COVID testing at MB -  Free COVID testing is available for all MB students on Thursdays.  To sign up and make an appointment, go to:

Students who make an appointment for testing should show their appointment verification to their teacher to get a pass, then report to the Counseling Conference room at the end of the Main Office hallway for testing.

  • Open House is on Thursday, 9/16 starting at 6:00 pm via zoom.  Zoom codes will be sent closer to the date.

  • On Thursday, 9/16 at 5:00 pm, Tracy Borg, IB Coordinator, will host an IB Information meeting via zoom.  The zoom code will be sent closer to the date.  Please contact Tracy Borg at tborg@sandi.net with any questions.

  • Picture Day has been rescheduled to Wednesday, 9/22.  Students who still need to get their picture and ID will be sent a pass on 9/22 to get their picture taken.

  • Would you be interested in serving on the Mission Bay High School Site Council this year as a parent representative?  To nominate yourself or a fellow parent, you may submit your name in an email to Erin Leszynski (eleszynski@sandi.net) by Thursday September 9th.

    • School Site Council is composed of equal numbers of staff and parent/student representatives who serve a two-year term. The School Site Council is a governing body that is responsible for deciding how to spend a portion of categorical money to improve the instructional program. The School Site Council members work together to set goals for improving student achievement at the school and allocating the funds to accomplish those goals.

    • For the coming school year, we have one parent opening.  Please contact one of our current members if you have questions.  Parents are Jennifer Grebing (jengrebing@gmail.com) and Christine Pilger (christinepilger@yahoo.com).

    • Our first meeting for newly elected members will be Wednesday, September 29, from 7:30 to 8:30 am via zoom. The membership term is September 2021 through September 2022. All parents and members of the public are welcome to attend.

  • Our first home football game will be held on Friday, 9/10 at 7:00. Please note masks MUST be worn by spectators.  No outside food or drink is allowed.

  • Per district guidance, parent access to the campus is limited at this time.  Please do not come to campus unless pre-arranged with administration.  Please also avoid, if possible, making appointments for your student during the school day.  If you need to pick up your student early, contact the attendance office at mafenir@sandi.net, or call 858-536-0136 and dial 0 or 2.
