Testing (Standardized)

What tests do I need to take to get into college?

Visit the website for the Universities/Colleges that you will be applying to in order to make sure you meet each university's/college's testing deadlines.

Some schools do not require any standardized testing for entrance. For a complete list, please visit Fair Test here: https://www.fairtest.org/university/optional

Community Colleges do not require any entrance exams.

California State Universities (CSU's) suspended the SAT/ACT for the Class of 2021.

University of California schools (UC's) no longer consider the SAT/ACT for admissions.

Private Colleges and Universities: Most require the SAT with Essay OR ACT plus Writing. See the individual website for each school's admission requirements. It is best to take the writing portion in case it is required. If it is not, it will not be considered and/or may count against you.

Highly Selective Private Colleges and Universities may require at least one SAT Subject Tests. See individual school website for admission requirements. Some campuses prefer certain subject tests depending on major, etc.

If you are enrolled in an IB or AP course, it is strongly recommended that you take the exam for that course in the spring.

PSAT Information

The PSAT is the practice test for the SAT (Scholastic Achievement Test). It is offered one time a year in the fall. (Please note - 2020-21: If safe to do so, we will offer this test on Jan 26.) Registered students will receive a practice booklet, their (returned) actual test booklets, as well as a score report. Information about ways to improve scores and a free Khan Academy account to help review and learn the concepts will be shared, following results.
